By this time my sculptures began to have more movement and were designed to hang on walls.
The main form of the dancer is still sewn and stuffed in the more conventional way my first ‘Sculptural Dolls’ began. I wanted more from them and primarily looked at them as paintings and drawings , thinking about the composition of the shapes and lines in them. Soon I started to used wire and paper mache to extend pictorial elements beyond their bodies.
There are birds flying out from her head and buildings on the outline of her body. These shapes created shadow effects on the wall which with correct lighting added to the theatrical nature of the figure.
People saw all kinds of influences in this sculpture; I saw ‘India’ though I wasn’t thinking of it at the time of making her.
