This was the first time I had painted on a black canvas.

I made four Lion Constellation faces and each started with me painting from the centre of the canvas outwards.

There was no preparation sketch and I only used patterns. The lions gradually opened their mouths to finally end with an enormous roar.

They came to represent the creative force in our universe and also provided the underlying energy and mystery behind the storyline of the show; which was the transformation and evolution of the female and male protagonist, the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ of Greek Renaissance literature : Erotokritos and Aretousa.
