STORYTELLING and TIME represented by a fantastical bird holding an hour glass in its beak..

When I completed my final painting of the Constellation Landscape  series; artworks of a magical landscape filled with stars and floating figures, I had been preoccupied with painting for over a year and a half. I wrote a prose that in turn led to a new series of works. In it I instantly saw that it could be divided into 7 parts and inspire different artworks, mediums and even styles:

ONCE UPON A TIME

There was a girl

Who looked up at the sky a lot

One day a star came down to take a closer look at her

It sang her songs of sunrises and sunsets

And with this it entered her heart

And decided to stay a while

In contemplating my response to the first part: ‘Once upon a time’, an image of a bird holding an hour glass came to mind. I did a number of preparatory sketches which led to this kaleidoscopic painting. The densely patterned space of the Constellation series also found further expression in this painting.
