“The King and Queen of the seas, sitting on their thrones, clasped their hands together to look into the Fisherman’s heart, to see if it was pure and true”
This two-figure sculpture piece shows the mermaid’s parents at the moment they sense their daughter has fallen in love with the fisherman. They have a magical way of checking if her suitor is worthy. Luckily for him they give their blessing.
I created some paintings while travelling through South America in 2014-15, that inspired a skeleton of a mythical love story. I brought this back with me to Australia and from my studio over the course of a year made art that helped the story to further develop and unfold. I presented this work in November 2018 in Melbourne at a solo show titled: The Fisherman and Mermaid’s Tale.
‘The Fisherman has a Pure Heart’ was one of three sculptures made for the show. It hangs on the wall with the (optional) fresco style drawing, extending out from part of it’s wire structure.
