The winds always carried messages to the fisherman and early that morning they spoke of a special bounty

To most it would have meant only one thing but to him it foretold of something deeper from the sea coming to him.

This mixed media sculpture has been sewn, collaged, painted, paper-mâchéd and constructed with a wide variety of materials. It hangs on the wall like a frieze and can be enhanced by light and shadow effects.

In 2015 while travelling in Brazil I created some paintings that inspired a love story about a fisherman and a mermaid. I brought some small paintings back with me to Australia that were based on that story and from my studio started to making more; The Day They Met is the first sculpture from that series.

At the end of 2017 I decided to begin work on a solo exhibition. Though this sculpture precedes the artworks prepared for my show, it has inspired a large painting  that will feature in my The Fisherman and Mermaid’s Tale  exhibition planned for November 2018.
