‘Closed’ is a face created in a mandala (circular) manner starting from the centre and adding detail in an outward direction.Creating it had a meditative and calming effect on me.

When viewed in relation to its companion mandala face ‘Open’, they seem to have something important to say about personal power, presence and stillness. These are my first explorations into face mandalas.

I have only made two small paintings so far and two small  ones on paper but I initially had a vision of filling a gallery wall with lots of open and closed mandala faces.
