Emerging is about a woman coming out of incubation like a caterpillar from a cocoon. The castle motif first appeared in a series of works i did in 2011 for my Tale of Love &  Reason, solo show. The topic of the work was an exploration of the themes in a famous  medieval epic love story called Erotokritos.

The castle tower was the place the princess of the tale was banished to by the king, as punishment for falling in love with a commoner. The King forbids the match only to be saved in battle by the young man years later. The princess Aretousa emerges a woman, ultimately vindicated, marrying her true love.

This artwork shows the castle in the background: a symbol of seclusion, introspection, spiritual and emotional maturity and ascension. The horse is a universal symbol of freedom and instinct, grace and nature.

EMERGENCE is about striking a balance in life: between the wild, passionate energy within and self worth, wisdom and discipline. Becoming the master of our own inner castle is a metaphor for introversion, contemplation,  inner strength, self mastery and self awareness. Striking a balance between our personal codes of freedom, instinctive integrity and  passionate energy with presence and wisdom is a journey worth embarking on at any time of life.

* The artwork is a mx of, pencil, ink, acrylic and watercolour paint on beautiful textured and thick archival watercolor paper. I recommend custom framing. with a neutral matt board, protected behind glass. Preferably in a white or natural coloured frame.
