All knowing, majestic and at peace in her world.

She can communicate with the garden and it with her; the perfect symbiosis. She emerged towards the end of my Constellation Landscape series. There are still a few of the small ones, painted  early on available in my Art for Sale section. They began as curious magical landscapes/seascapes.

Eventually people appeared and then the figures became the main focal point taking up much of the space. The landscapes disappeared and only the space around the figures remained.

Towards the end, the colours exploded and the work took a different direction and I guess Constellation Maiden appeared close to that turn around. However, the interesting thing to note about her is that i picked her up again after a 2 year absence, well after the Constellation series of artworks had been completed.

I found new solutions to the composition, dropped back some of the colours and patterns to concentrate the attention closer to her head and made her features more mature. A Dorian Gray element (Oscar Wilde’s Gothic story about a portrait that aged as its owner remained young) but not sinister, as my loose metaphor might suggest.

My painting subject’s maturity spoke of growth and personal power.
