MY LARGEST STAR TREE, This painting is part of my Constellation Landscape series.
It came after months of creating dozens of smaller paintings of this imaginary landscape. They were inspired by a poem I wrote which described a place where miracles were created, dominated by sky, sea, islands and trees made of stars.
Because I was working for a time small scale I felt compelled to do something different, so I asked myself: what would happen if I zoomed in? and then Waterfall appeared.
It depicts a figure poised at the outer edge of a star-tree. He is so at one with his environment that the tree willingly holds him (as do the boundaries of the canvas) as he rides its waves to the waterfall on the other side.
This painting strongly exemplifies the playground nature of the landscape. The colourful floral motifs you see on the island began to increase in the paintings that followed. Only after i finished it did I discover that the fan-like shape of the tree and the waterfall symbolized new beginnings.
