The PAINTED SCULPTURE features strongly in my art and is the truest of descriptions for my 3D work.

TO FLY is one of 5 sculptures I have made in 2021 that belongs to my Wishing Tree Story (watch and listen HERE)

It depicts a person who has visited the wishing tree and shared with it their deepest longing. The experience leaves them changed, with a clearer picture of who they are and who they can become .

This is expressed in an image they either hold or wear, a portrait of themselves; their ideal self or true self.

To Fly represents his wish to fly, in whatever form that may take; to feel the freedom and elation that lifting his feet off the ground affords. This  is expressed as a painting of himself with wings. He holds it above his head. In fact, it appears to possess the power to lift him off the ground.  Colorful leaves are tied along the full length of his arms, getting him ready for what real wings feel like.

Each person who visits the tree has a part of it’s branches or leaves on them. This symbolizes that their encounter has changed them, and put them on a path of growth. They carry the wishing tree’s words and presence within them. They are guided to go through a deep cleansing and understanding of their true self.

Eventually the tree will call them back, once their wish is ready to be granted/manifested. They will be told a unique story, fairy tale, myth that holds the essence of their heart’s desire, in it.

In the hearing: it comes true, and in the telling: the story is released into the air like pollen, spreading far and wide in the form of stories and fables.

These will  be woven into the fabric of cultures and take their place amongst the human library of magical tales. Shared, spoken and heard, around the world, so as to enter the hearts and souls of others.
