Size: 100 cm x 75 cm
This painting is part of my Constellation Landscape series. It came after months of creating dozens of smaller paintings of this imaginary landscape. They were inspired by a poem I wrote which described a place where miracles were created, dominated by sky, sea, islands and trees made of stars. Because I had been working for a time in small scale I asked myself: what would happen if I ZOOMED OUT and painted in a large scale?… Waterfall appeared.
It depicts a figure poised at the outer edge of a star-tree. He is so at one with his environment that the tree willingly holds him (as do the boundaries of the canvas) as he rides its waves to the waterfall on the other side. This painting strongly exemplifies the playground nature of the landscape.
The colourful floral motifs you see on the island began to increased significantly in the paintings that followed. Only after i finished it did I discover that the fan-like shape of the tree and the waterfall symbolized new beginnings.
The prose : A CONSTELLATION LANDSCAPE which was inspired by a painting from an earlier series and in turn inspired more than a year of exploration though paintings and sculptures of the mystical landscape it describes.
Waterfall became the last of the star tree paintings, which occupied the first period of the series, and where the colours: blue green and white dominated. After Waterfall came a burst of colour and a shift to magicians, aviators and angels: different beings of flight from the star breathers and star men that I had become familiar with.
A Constellation Landscape
Leaving the castle behind her she entered the forest and followed the stars that twinkled through the branches of the trees, guiding her to a new place.
As she approached she heard humming, water, singing and laughter.
She saw an infinite blue sea beneath galaxies, particles of magic, green islands and trees made of stars
She saw carefree dancers moving in space full of joy and improvising with self-assured steps. They floated through fragments of light, kissing the stars and brushing them with the back of their hands as they passed them by.
This was where dreams came from and constellations rallied behind humans to help them manifest their desires.
Here creation boasted and spread out in abundance.
It was here that you discovered your true voice and the freedom to express your imagination in all its brilliance.
This was the place of miracles.
