The last remaining painting from the 12 sunset and sunrises, (which i also refer to as love song landscapes)that I made for solo show: Once Upon A Time.
It depicts a little girl holding something bright and precious in her hand and an older female figure, perhaps her future self, looking on.
All 12 were created in response to the phrase “It sang her songs of of sunrises and sunsets” This exhibition was based on a poem I wrote as a response to completing a a years work of Constellation Landscapes (see my Blog post for more information):
Once upon a time
There was a girl
Who looked up at the sky a lot
One day a star came down to take a closer look at her
It sang her songs of sunrises and sunsets
And with this, it entered her heart
And decided to stay a while..
For the exhibition I creating art for each line of the text, in whatever medium and style each evoked in me. It presented one way of using a story creatively through art. Because of the variety of responses it looked almost like a group exhibition. Each artwork or group of artworks, had the line of the poem it related to as its title.
